Cyprus Still Shrouded in Dust, Labour Inspection Reiterates Recommendations for Employees and the Public

Nicosia: High concentrations of dust are observed in the air on Wednesday, according to measurements from ground stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network operated by the Department of Labour Inspection.

According to Cyprus News Agency, an announcement issued by the Department urges the public, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, older people, and the infirm, to avoid circulating in open spaces until the dust episode has subsided, as the small size of respirable particles in dust may have detrimental effects on human health.

Employers, based on the Safety and Health at Work Order of 2022, are advised to take appropriate measures, both organizational and technical, after assessing any risks that their employees may encounter while working in open spaces. It is recommended that workers in these areas use suitable personal protective equipment.

In detail, the latest hourly dust concentrations measured at 08:00 am are 44.4 µg/m3 in Nicosia, 132.6 µg/m3 in Limassol, 79.3 µg/m3 in Larnaca, 82.8 µg/m3 in Paralimni, 180.2 µg/m3 in Paphos, 126.3 µg/m3 in Zygi, and 178.6 µg/m3 in Ayia Marina Xyliatou.
