Cyprus President Christodoulides Embarks on Official Visits to Baltic States

Riga: President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides departs on Wednesday from Cyprus for a series of visits to the Baltic states, starting with an official visit to Latvia. He will then visit Lithuania and Estonia ahead of assuming the EU Council Presidency for the first half of 2026.

According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides departs on Wednesday evening for Riga where on Thursday he will be officially welcomed at the Riga Castle. He will then have a tête-à-tête meeting with Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkevics, followed by expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries. Afterwards, the two Presidents will make statements to the media.

Later, President Christodoulides will be hosted in a luncheon by Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina followed by a visit to the Freedom Monument where he will lay a wreath. He will then visit Latvia’s Occupation Museum and NATO’s Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence. In the evening, the President will take part in an official dinner hos
ted in his honour by Rinkevics.

According to the presidency, on Thursday evening he will travel to Vilnius, Lithuania where on Friday he will have a tête-à-tête meeting with President Gitanas Nauseda at the Presidential Palace. Afterwards, the two Presidents will make statements to the press, followed by a working lunch. On Friday afternoon, President Christodoulides will travel to Tallinn, Estonia.

He will have a tête-à-tête meeting with Prime Minister Kristen Michal, followed by expanded talks and statements to the press. He will then have a meeting with Estonian President Alar Karis at his office in the presence of the delegations of both countries.

During his meetings in Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, the President will “discuss among other things bilateral relations, the situation in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle Eastern region, developments in the Cyprus issue, as well as the priorities of the forthcoming Cypriot EU Council Presidency,” the presidency’s press release says.

oulides, who will be accompanied by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou, and other officials, will return to Cyprus on Friday evening.
