Nicosia: Representatives from 14 European institutions, organizations, and states are set to participate in the opening ceremony of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU on January 7 in Nicosia. The Cyprus Presidency Spokesperson, Stella Michael, shared these details with CNA, emphasizing that the presence of these representatives highlights Cyprus's role as a bridge between the European Union and regional countries.
According to Cyprus News Agency, several foreign delegations will be attending the ceremony, with an array of prominent figures, including the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, among others. Delegations from other neighboring countries will also grace the event, signifying the international importance of the occasion.
Michael highlighted that January 7 marks a significant event for Cyprus, not only due to the ceremony itself but also because of the numerous bilateral meetings scheduled to take place in Nicosia. These meetings are part of an intensive program that is currently being finalized, and the President of the Republic will host an official dinner for the heads of the delegations following the ceremony.
The spokesperson further noted that the event aims to showcase Cyprus's historical journey and its evolving role within the European Union. The ceremony will underline Cyprus's commitment to European principles and values, focusing on peace, stability, and mutual benefits through synergies under the EU's auspices.
Preparations for the event are in full swing, with rehearsals being conducted daily involving artists, organizers, police, and the public TV (CyBC) to ensure a smooth televised broadcast. Michael assured that all necessary arrangements are being made to ensure the success of the opening ceremony.
