Nicosia: Close cooperation and coordination between the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Commission to advance an 'ambitious and open' European trade policy were underscored by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Interinstitutional Relations and Transparency Maro‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¡ ‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦ efcovic, during their meeting on Thursday at the Secretariat of the Cyprus Presidency in Nicosia, in the context of the Commissioner's visit to Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting took place on the occasion of Maro‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦¡ ‚¬Å¡¬€¦¡¬€š¬¦¡¬¦ efcovic's participation in the Informal Meeting of EU Trade Ministers being held under the Cyprus Presidency, and included an exchange of views on trade policy issues high on the European agenda. The objective of the EU's trade policy, it said, is to strengthen the EU's competitiveness, resilience and geopolitical role in a particularly demanding international environment.
Among other issues, discussions covered the EU-United Arab Emirates trade negotiations, EU-US trade relations, the EU-Mercosur agreement, the ongoing EU-Australia negotiations, as well as EU-United Kingdom relations. "The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing the relevant dossiers and achieving tangible results during the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union," it concluded.
