Cyprus Coastlines Brace for Gale-Force Winds and Rough Seas

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast indicating that a weak low-pressure system is impacting the sea area of Cyprus, bringing with it a wave of turbulent weather conditions. In the evening, the skies are predicted to be partly cloudy, transitioning to mainly cloudy as the night progresses. Isolated showers are expected over the western regions, evolving into local showers and isolated thunderstorms throughout the night. During these thunderstorms, hail is anticipated.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a warning has been issued, labeled as WARNING NR:15, highlighting the expectation of strong to near gale, and locally near gale, southwesterly winds. These winds are predicted to reach Force 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale, and locally could reach up to 7 Beaufort, primarily affecting the coastal areas. The state of the sea is forecasted to be moderate to rough and, in some areas, locally rough. Visibility is expected to remain good, although it could diminish to moderate or poor during showers. The sea surface temperature is recorded at 20°C.

The warning specifies different conditions for various coastal regions. On the west coast, overnight winds will transition from south to southwest, reaching Force 5 to 6, and gradually increase to Force 6. By morning, the winds will be southwest at 6, sometimes locally reaching 7, with the sea state moderate to rough and locally rough. The afternoon will see a shift to southwest to northwest winds at Force 5 to 6, with the sea remaining moderate to rough.

The south coast will experience similar conditions, with winds starting south to southwest at Force 5 to 6 and escalating to southwest 6 to 7 overnight. These conditions will persist into the morning with local gusts reaching 7, and the sea state will be moderate to rough. By afternoon, winds will shift southwest to west at Force 5 to 6.

On the east coast, initial conditions will mirror those of the other coasts, with south to southwest winds at Force 5 to 6, locally reaching 6 to 7, and sea states ranging from moderate to rough. Morning conditions will see winds southwest at 6 to 7, locally reaching 7, with the sea state moderate to rough. By afternoon, winds will decrease slightly to southwest to west at Force 4 to 5, locally 5 to 6, with moderate sea conditions.

Lastly, the north coast will experience a similar pattern, with overnight winds south to southwest at Force 5 to 6, gradually increasing to southwest 6 to 7, with the sea state becoming rough. Morning conditions will maintain southwest winds at 6 to 7, locally 7, with rough seas. By afternoon, the winds will shift southwest to west at Force 5 to 6, occasionally reaching 6, with moderate to rough seas.
