Ashgabat: Sustainable development is intrinsically linked to peace, governance, and resilience, emphasized Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis of Cyprus. She highlighted the nation’s commitment to integrated approaches that connect development with humanitarian responses, ensuring inclusive growth for all communities, especially women, youth, and marginalized groups.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Hadjimanolis addressed the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in Turkmenistan, where she articulated Cyprus’s stance on addressing the development challenges faced by Landlocked Developing Countries, Least Developed Countries, and Small Island Developing States in a coherent manner. She affirmed Cyprus’s dedication, as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term, to prioritize non-discriminatory education access, child rights protection, gender equality, employment equality, and the promotion of economic, social, and cultural rights, alongside tackling the human rights impacts of climate change.
Hadjimanolis expressed Cyprus’s support for the Awaza Programme of Action for the Decade 2024-2034, adopted by the General Assembly in December 2024. Describing it as a crucial roadmap, she emphasized its role in empowering landlocked developing countries and integrating their priorities into the global development agenda.
She also underscored the strategic importance of enhancing regional transport corridors, digital connectivity, and advancing multimodal transit systems, particularly across Africa, Asia, and Central Europe, as key areas for development cooperation.
