Conservation Works Begin at Two Cultural Heritage Sites in Cyprus

Nicosia: Conservation works have commenced at two cultural heritage sites in Cyprus, as announced by Sotos Ktoris, the Greek Cypriot Co-Chairman of the bicommunal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage. The announcement was made via a Facebook post.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the conservation efforts are focused on the mosque in the community of Agios Thomas in Limassol district and the church of Timios Prodromos in Neo Chorio, Kythrea. These projects are being implemented with financial support from the European Union and technical guidance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Cyprus has experienced division since 1974 when Turkish troops invaded, leading to the occupation of 37% of its territory. The conservation efforts are part of ongoing initiatives to preserve the cultural heritage of the island amidst its complex political landscape.
