Conservation Work Initiated on Historic Churches in Turkish-Occupied Cyprus

Nicosia: Conservation work has commenced on the church of Panagia Chryseleousa in Katokopia and the church of Panagia Galaktotrofousa in Palaikythro, both located in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus. The restoration efforts are being undertaken by the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Committee's co-chair, Sotos Ktoris, revealed in a series of posts that the projects are being co-funded by the European Union. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is providing guidance for these initiatives.

The restoration of these churches is part of a broader effort to preserve cultural heritage sites across Cyprus. Currently, more than 70 cemeteries are also undergoing restoration. This extensive work is being conducted as per an agreement between the two leaders of Cyprus and executed through the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
