Nicosia: The College of the EU Commissioners, led by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is scheduled to visit Cyprus on January 15 and 16 as part of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to Cyprus News Agency, consultations will be held with the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU to discuss cooperation during its six-month term. The visit is highlighted as one of the most significant events during the Cyprus Presidency. On Thursday morning, the President of the Commission, alongside the President of the Republic, will visit the Green Line in Nicosia, in front of the new Nicosia City Hall.
The main meeting between the College of Commissioners and the Cyprus Council of Ministers will be hosted at the new port of Limassol. There, the President of the Republic and the Commission President will explore an exhibition on the Amalthea project, Cyprus' initiative for providing humanitarian aid to Gaza through a sea corridor, located in the passenger hall area of the new port.
President Christodoulides and von der Leyen will engage in a bilateral meeting, followed by discussions in small groups comprising Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Commissioners. These discussions will focus on the European agenda and the priorities of both the Cyprus Presidency and the Commission.
A plenary session, featuring the College of Commissioners and the Council of Ministers, will also take place, led by the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the President of the Commission. The visit will conclude with a joint press conference by President Christodoulides and President von der Leyen. After the press conference, von der Leyen will depart, while the Commissioners will head to Nicosia for a dinner hosted by the President of the Republic.
On the following day, the College of Commissioners will tour the old town of Nicosia and revisit the Green Line, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna.
