Chef Andreas Mavrommatis’s Legacy is Strong and Lives On, President Says

Nicosia: Cyprus is deeply grateful to Michelin-starred Chef Andreas Mavrommatis, and his team, who brought the cuisine of Cyprus to this week's informal European Council, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, in a post on X on Sunday. Christodoulides noted that though Chef Mavrommatis passed away last month, his legacy is strong and lives on.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Chef Mavrommatis, renowned for his culinary expertise, hailed from the village of Agros. He was celebrated for bringing the authentic flavors of Cyprus to the global stage, serving Presidents, Prime Ministers, and people from around the world at the highest tables in Paris. President Christodoulides described him as a true Ambassador for all that is good in Cyprus, emphasizing how Mavrommatis exemplified the achievements of Cypriots. He expressed the nation's honor in celebrating Mavrommatis's memory with their European family.

The President remarked on the exceptional quality of the food served at the informal European Council, attributing its success to Mavrommatis's love for his country. He shared that he continues to receive messages from European leaders praising the dishes. In his closing remarks, President Christodoulides expressed the nation's gratitude and commitment to celebrating the chef's enduring legacy.
