Nicosia: The number and total value of bounced cheques issued in April 2025 witnessed a significant decline compared to the same month last year. Only 23 bounced cheques were issued, with a total value of just £22,860, according to data released by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC). This data pertains to entries of individuals in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of bounced cheques.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in March 2025, 11 bounced cheques were recorded, totaling £72,009. In contrast, April 2024 saw 32 cheques, with a total value of £137,613. The total number of persons registered in the preliminary CIR list amounted to 9, comprising 6 legal entities and 3 natural persons.
During the period from January to April 2025, CBC data indicated that a total of 84 bounced cheques were registered in the preliminary CIR list, with a total value of £179,424. This is a decrease compared to the 108 cheques in the same period last year, which totaled £252,988. The bounced cheques during this timeframe involved 42 persons, of which 25 were legal entities and 17 were natural persons.
Furthermore, CBC data showed that the number of persons registered in the CIR in April 2025 reached 14. This included 6 legal entities, 1 natural person, and 7 natural persons who control legal entities. During the January to April 2025 period, a total of 38 persons were registered in the CIR, compared to 78 persons during the corresponding period in 2024.
