Kiev: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his intention to visit Cyprus within the framework of the Cyprus EU Presidency during a meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides, CNA has learnt.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during Thursday’s meeting at the Mariinsky Palace, Zelensky responded to an invitation from President Christodoulides to attend events organized by Nicosia as part of the EU Presidency in the first half of 2026, expressing his intention to visit the country.
The sources noted that Zelensky requested Cyprus’ help in opening the six thematic clusters of negotiation chapters for Ukraine’s EU accession process. President Christodoulides reportedly presented a list of 19 proposals aimed at supporting Ukraine during Cyprus’ EU Presidency. Some of these proposals have already been accepted, and others will be processed by the Ukrainian side.
The meeting also involved discussions on Turkish companies circumventing EU sanctions against Russia, with Nicosia providing relevant information and Kyiv planning to address the issue with Ankara. Additionally, Zelensky highlighted concerns about European companies supplying components to Russia for missile manufacturing.
