Voting Begins Smoothly for Cyprus 2026 Parliamentary Election

Nicosia: Polling stations opened at 7 a.m. on Sunday for Cyprus' 2026 parliamentary elections, with the voting process starting smoothly and without problems, according to the Chief Returning Officer Elikkos Elias.

According to Cyprus News Agency, a total of 568,587 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots, along with 595 enclaved voters from the districts of Kyrenia and Famagusta. Voting is taking place at 1,204 polling stations across the Republic of Cyprus, as well as at eight polling centres in Greece, located in Athens and Thessaloniki. The polling station in Brussels is expected to open at 9 a.m. Cyprus time, while four polling stations in London will open at 10 a.m. Cyprus time.

Additionally, 13 polling stations in Cyprus are designated for the election of the Representative of the Maronite Religious Group. Representatives of the Armenian and Latin religious groups have already been elected uncontested, as no other candidates were nominated.

Voting will continue until noon and resume at 1 p.m. following a one-hour break, before concluding at 6 p.m. In exceptional cases, if large numbers of voters remain outside polling stations waiting to vote, presiding officers may extend voting hours until midnight. The Chief Returning Officer called on all voters to go to the polls and exercise their democratic right responsibly, adding that the public would be regularly updated on the progress of the electoral process.
