Nicosia: The updated travel advisory issued by the US State Department for Cyprus is described as "a standard precautionary procedure" according to diplomatic sources who spoke with the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
According to Cyprus News Agency, the advisory, which is set at level 3, is considered the mildest level of such measures. It does not require the withdrawal of personnel nor does it imply any immediate threat. The advisory simply provides an option for family members of diplomats or a limited number of non-essential personnel to temporarily leave, should they choose to do so.
The sources further clarified that the "authorized departure" mentioned in the advisory is significantly different from a "mandatory departure," which would necessitate the compulsory evacuation of personnel. Such mandatory measures have been employed in several countries in the Middle East and the Gulf due to regional developments, but this is not applicable to Cyprus.
They emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus remains in continuous communication and coordination with its partners and relevant authorities. The situation is under constant assessment, and there is no current indication that would warrant concern regarding security in the country.
