Trade Deficit in First Eleven Months of 2025 Sees Notable Increase

Nicosia: The trade deficit in the first eleven months of the year recorded an increase.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the trade deficit was pound 7,284.3 million in January-November 2025 compared to pound 6,385.1 million in the corresponding period of 2024.

The Statistical Service issued Friday the foreign trade statistics for October (final data) and for November (provisional data). Total imports of goods in November 2025 were pound 1,038.4 million, marking a decrease of 10.6% from November 2024. Imports from EU Member States amounted to pound 595.7 million and from third countries pound 442.7 million, both showing a decline from their respective figures in November 2024.

Imports in November 2025 included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, valued at pound 10.0 million compared to pound 138.7 million in November 2024. Conversely, total exports in November 2025 rose by 6.3% to pound 407.1 million. Exports to EU Member States were pound 106.5 million and to third countries pound 300.6 million, slightly increasing from November 2024 figures.

For the January to November 2025 period, total imports increased by 9.9% to pound 12,309.7 million, while total exports rose by 4.5% to pound 5,025.4 million. The overall trade deficit for this period was pound 7,284.3 million, higher than the deficit of pound 6,385.1 million recorded in the same period in 2024.

In October 2025, the final data showed total imports amounted to pound 1,153.8 million, an 8.9% decrease from October 2024. Exports of domestically produced products fell by 16.4% to pound 247.7 million.

The main categories of exports of domestically produced goods for January-October 2025 included mineral fuels and oils at pound 2,000.8 million, halloumi cheese at pound 309.7 million, and pharmaceutical products at pound 289.7 million. The Statistical Service highlighted that more detailed data are available in their monthly publication and online database.
