Tourism Minister and Nicosia Mayor Discuss Upgrading Capital as Destination

Nicosia: Deputy Minister for Tourism Kostas Koumis and Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos discussed an action plan for promoting Nicosia as a sustainable, alternative tourism destination. "I believe that it is the responsibility of all of us to upgrade our capital city as regards the tourism sector," the Deputy Minister stressed.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Minister mentioned that by 2027, the number of tourist beds in Nicosia is expected to double, with at least four more units anticipated to operate. He also highlighted Nicosia's recent accolades, including its designation as Culinary Capital 2024 by the World Food Travel Association and its recognition as the Best Beverage Experience Destination for Culinary Travellers.

The Mayor of Nicosia noted that the capital can significantly enhance the country's hospitality product by offering unique characteristics distinct from traditional tourist destinations. Nicosia can leverage its culture, history, gastronomy, architectural wealth, and its potential as an extroverted European economic, administrative, academic, and research centre.
