Nicosia: Tourism in Cyprus has reached unprecedented levels in the first four months of 2025, with April alone witnessing over 400,000 arrivals for the first time, according to Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis. This milestone highlights the momentum of the tourism sector in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis addressed journalists at a press briefing held at the Presidential Palace, emphasizing that the current success is the result of targeted policies, strategic planning, and a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors. The implementation of the National Tourism Strategy has played a significant role in achieving these measurable results.
Letymbiotis stressed that these achievements do not lead to complacency. Instead, they motivate further efforts towards enhancing quality, diversifying the tourism product, attracting new markets, and promoting sustainable development that respects the environment and benefits local communities. He highlighted the importance of tourism as a pillar of the economy and emphasized the need for vision, consistency, and strategic planning to shape its future.
He cited official data from the Statistical Service, which describes the tourism performance as not merely positive but historic. The period from January to April saw the highest number of arrivals ever recorded, with significant increases compared to previous years: 15.6% over 2024, 17.5% over 2023, 62% over 2022, and 26% over 2019, prior to the pandemic. This trend indicates not only a complete recovery but also a steady upward trajectory.
Letymbiotis noted the significance of this growth not just being seasonal. Tourist traffic during the winter months has also strengthened, with a 51% increase over three years and a remarkable 122% rise over a decade for the period between November and April. This development suggests that Cyprus is well on its way to becoming a year-round tourist destination, moving beyond the traditional confines of summer tourism.
