Nicosia: Summer bookings are currently down by 25% compared with the same period last year, Christos Angelides, Director General of the Cyprus Hotel Association (CHA) told Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
According to Cyprus News Agency, Angelides explained that hotel occupancy rates for this summer are currently around 40%-50%, whereas in the same period of 2025, they were close to 75% during a record-breaking year, with occupancy reaching 95% in July. He mentioned that although the flow of cancellations has decreased to manageable levels, the pace of new bookings is not enough to reverse the trend observed over the past two months.
Angelides added that average bookings across Cyprus for May are around 40%-50%. For the summer period, bookings are down by about 25%-30% compared with last year, maintaining figures around 40%-50% while last year they stood at 75%.
He highlighted concerns regarding the rise in jet fuel prices, which are influencing airlines as they decide on their priority destinations. Cyprus is not a top priority due to its limited flight frequency compared to destinations like Spain, which can accommodate more flights per day. Several airlines have already reduced their routes to Cyprus as a result.
Efforts are underway to change travel advisories issued by the United Kingdom and the United States for Cyprus. Angelides confirmed that the association has met with relevant embassies to address these advisories.
In response to whether hotels have introduced special offers to stimulate the domestic market, Angelides stated that the Association has encouraged its members to offer special deals to customers. Some members have already implemented these offers.
Emphasizing the importance of maintaining Cyprus's reputation, Angelides concluded, 'We will remain patient. We are studying the situation and continuing our actions and activities. The goal is to deliver a good result in terms of customer service.'
