Seasonal Low Pressure Brings Unstable Weather to Cyprus Sea Area

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, highlighting the impact of seasonal low pressure and an unstable air mass. The forecast, which covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards, predicts mainly fine weather with locally increased cloud coverage. There is a risk of local mist overnight and in the early morning, particularly affecting the southern and eastern regions of Cyprus. According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was recorded at 1008hPa. Visibility is expected to be good, but may deteriorate to moderate or poor conditions in areas experiencing mist. The sea surface temperature is currently 29°C, and no weather warnings have been issued for the period from 0600 on August 18, 2026, to 0600 on August 19, 2026. The forecast details specific wind patterns and sea conditions for different coastal areas. On the west coast, the morning will bring southwest to west winds ranging from 3 to 4 on the Be aufort scale, with the sea state being slight. In the afternoon, winds will shift to southwest to northwest, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, maintaining a slight sea state. For the south coast, morning winds will transition from southeast to southwest at 2 to 3, gradually increasing to south to southwest at 3 to 4. The sea state will range from smooth to slight. By afternoon, southwest to west winds of 4, occasionally 4 to 5, will maintain a smooth to slight sea state, while at night, variable winds of 2 to 3 will prevail, with the sea state remaining smooth to slight. The east coast will experience east to southeast winds of 2 to 3 in the morning, later turning southeast to southwest at 3 to 4. The sea will be smooth to slight. Afternoon conditions will feature southwest winds at 4, locally reaching 4 to 5, with the sea remaining smooth to slight. At night, southwest to west winds will blow at 3, maintaining a smooth to slight sea state. On the north coast, morning winds will vary from southwest to northwes t at 3 to 4, with slight sea conditions. Afternoon winds will continue from southwest to northwest at 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, maintaining a slight sea. By night, southwest to west winds will prevail at 3, gradually shifting near the coast to southeast to southwest at 2 to 3, with the sea state remaining slight and smooth to slight near the coast.
