Restoration Works Begin at Church of Panagia in Makrasyka, Famagusta

Famagusta: Restoration efforts have commenced at the Church of Panagia in the Turkish-occupied community of Makrasyka, Famagusta. These efforts are being spearheaded by the Bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the project is being carried out with financial support from the European Union and the local community, with technical guidance provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The initiative highlights the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders to preserve cultural heritage.

In addition to the work at the Church of Panagia, restoration activities have recently concluded at the Church of Saint John the Baptist (Timios Prodromos) in Argaki, Morphou. This 19th-century church, built on the site of an earlier Byzantine monastery, saw preservation and restoration of a section of its wooden iconostasis and a stone-carved icon depicting the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist.

Further restoration projects have been completed at the historic mosque in Terra, located in the Paphos district, demonstrating ongoing efforts to maintain cultural sites across the region.
