Repatriation of Cypriots from Middle East a Priority, Gotsis Tells CNA

Nicosia: The repatriation of Cypriot citizens from the Middle East is a priority for the Republic of Cyprus, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Theodoros Gotsis. Efforts are underway as Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos engages in telephone discussions with international partners due to the rapid developments in the region.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Kombos communicated with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis. He emphasized the importance of de-escalation and the need for diplomacy and dialogue to maintain regional stability and security.

In response to inquiries about the Ministry's actions for repatriation, Gotsis highlighted an extraordinary meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council. Foreign Minister Kombos, actively communicating with his counterparts, particularly from Middle Eastern countries and the EU, participated in the discussions. Gotsis stated that once the airspace reopens, Cyprus's primary concern will be the safe return of its citizens.

Gotsis also mentioned a circular from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stating that accommodation costs for those affected will be covered by UAE authorities. The public is advised to contact +97126576283 for further information, as detailed in a post by the Cypriot embassy in the UAE. Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Cypriot citizens to register on the Connect2CY online platform, ensuring they provide complete contact information and location details.
