Nicosia: President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, received the Directors of the seven Centres of Excellence for Research and Innovation in Cyprus, stressing the importance of coordinating their actions. The meeting was attended by key figures including Minister of Finance Makis Keravnos, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nikodemos Damianou, and Deputy Minister to the President, Irini Piki.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides highlighted the necessity for a unified approach among the Centers. He stated that recent efforts have been made to commercialize research, emphasizing that research must be integrated into society to generate the desired added value. He pointed out the significance of Cyprus’s human resources, expressing a desire to attract them back to work within the Research and Innovation Centers to strengthen the ecosystem.
Diophantos Hadjimitsis, representing all the Centers of Excellence, noted that a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to promote cooperation and innovation. He assured support for government efforts to establish Cyprus as a regional hub for innovation and research. Hadjimitsis emphasized collaboration with industry, social services, and civil society to advance products and welcomed the recent event in the United Kingdom aimed at repatriating Cypriot researchers.
