President Launches “Minds in Cyprus” Campaign in London to Repatriate Citizens

Nicosia: President Nikos Christodoulides is travelling to London on Tuesday for the launch of the campaign “Minds in Cyprus” with the aim to repatriate citizens back to the island, Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, said in a written statement.

According to Cyprus News Agency, this initiative holds strategic importance, focusing on transforming Cyprus into a new productive model by emphasizing the scientific and professional human resource of the Cyprus diaspora. The event, co-organised by the Cyprus Presidency, Invest Cyprus, and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), has drawn interest from over 750 Cypriots in the United Kingdom, including young scientists, professionals, and students.

The Spokesman emphasized that the significant response sends a message of confidence and perspective, reflecting the growing prestige of the Cypriot economy in innovation, entrepreneurship, and scientific research. The event will also feature senior executives from 20 major companies operating in Cyprus and Centres of Excellence, aiming to showcase opportunities in the modern labour market on the island.

During the event, the President will unveil the comprehensive Action Plan for Talent Repatriation, a joint strategic effort by relevant Ministries. This plan is part of the national strategy to strengthen ties with Cypriots abroad and includes policies related to employment, innovation, entrepreneurship, taxation, education, and family reunification.

According to Letymbiotis, this package of measures provides a framework for Cypriots excelling abroad to return and continue their careers and lives in their homeland. The event will include two thematic roundtable discussions followed by an open dialogue with questions from participants to the President. Letymbiotis stated that the “Minds in Cyprus” initiative marks the start of a coordinated national effort to bring talent back home.

President Christodoulides is accompanied in London by the Minister of Labour and Social Security Yiannis Panagiotou, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodemos Damianou, Director of the Office of the President Charalambos Charalambous, the Government Spokesman and other officials.

The London event will be broadcast online at https://youtu.be/edx7GGTFiTs. On May 22, the President will travel to Helsinki for a two-day working visit at the invitation of the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, Letymbiotis noted.
