Nicosia: Major national issues, such as the economy, defence, and security, are not suitable for experimentation, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides emphasized during his address at the New Democracy Party Congress in Athens. The President stressed the importance of maintaining a stable and safe future for the countries involved.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides critiqued the narrative of the 'end of ideologies,' suggesting it serves those who criticize without offering viable solutions. He stated that such approaches do not constitute meaningful policy and fail to address the challenges undermining stability.
Highlighting the historical role of the New Democracy Party, President Christodoulides noted its contribution to national reconstruction, economic development, and social progress over its 52-year history. He referenced the enduring relevance of Konstantinos Karamanlis's statement that 'Greece belongs to the West,' especially in today's unstable international climate.
The President acknowledged the collaborative efforts of Greece and Cyprus in addressing geopolitical challenges and acting as pillars of stability. He recounted the swift military support provided by Greece during a crisis at the British Base in Akrotiri, emphasizing the robust bilateral relations between the two nations.
President Christodoulides also discussed the ongoing Cyprus EU Council presidency, highlighting initiatives targeting inflation, employment, digital and green transitions, and social cohesion. He outlined the necessity of cooperation and effective planning to implement sustainable policies addressing citizens' daily concerns.
Furthermore, he praised the exceptional level of bilateral relations between Nicosia and Athens, which extend beyond national issues to include education, healthcare, environmental policies, and more, enhancing the daily lives of citizens in both nations.
