Jerusalem: The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will travel to Israel on Monday to conduct a bilateral visit and participate in the 10th Trilateral Summit of Cyprus-Greece-Israel.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the Summit holds significant political and institutional importance, as it follows two years after the 9th Trilateral Summit in Nicosia and recent events of 7 October 2023. The Summit is a testament to the ongoing strategic collaboration among the three nations, serving as a cornerstone for regional cooperation and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Letymbiotis emphasized that the Summit reaffirms Cyprus's commitment to bolstering institutionalized regional cooperation, aiming to function as reliable mechanisms for political coordination and strategic partnerships in crucial areas like energy, economy, defense, cybersecurity, maritime security, and regional connectivity. The discussions will also explore strengthening the 3+1 format with the United States, enhancing the Eastern Mediterranean's role as a strategic, energy, and economic connectivity bridge.
Further discussions will focus on the energy sector, emphasizing interconnected infrastructure to support existing and new energy projects. This momentum is bolstered by the Agreement on the Delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone between Cyprus and Lebanon. The Summit will also highlight Cyprus's active role in regional stabilization, particularly in Gaza, addressing humanitarian, security, and reconstruction efforts within a regional approach.
Following the Summit, leaders are expected to address the media. The event will be preceded by bilateral meetings between the Cypriot President and Israel's President and Prime Minister, underscoring the robust bilateral relations and mutual commitment to deepening these ties. Additional bilateral meetings will occur between the Foreign and Energy Ministers of Cyprus and Israel. President Christodoulides will return to Cyprus on the evening of 22 December.
