Strasbourg: President Nikos Christodoulides, who will address the plenary of the European Parliament on Tuesday, is expected to emphasize the necessity for the European Union to maintain internal strength and unity, while also highlighting the importance of the Cyprus EU Presidency's collaboration with the European Parliament to advance significant European policies and legislative initiatives, according to reliable sources. According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides' speech will focus on the European responsibility that Cyprus holds as the most southeastern part of Europe and as the only European capital still under illegal occupation. He will stress the importance of Europe enhancing its strategic autonomy, resilience, and competitiveness amid rising geopolitical challenges. The President plans to underscore that a truly autonomous Europe must be robust and cohesive internally, capable of safeguarding its citizens, borders, and interests, while simultaneously fostering international partner ships grounded in credibility, with principles of international law, dialogue, and diplomacy as guiding beacons. In this context, the President is expected to highlight the necessity for a commitment to international law and the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states as essential for the Union's security, stability, and cohesion. This aligns with the EU's ongoing and determined support for Ukraine in response to the Russian invasion.
