Open University of Cyprus to Host International Conference on Digitalization of Judicial Procedures

Nicosia: The Jean Monnet Chair ‘European Union Institutions, Rights and Judicial Integration’ at the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) is organizing an International Online Conference titled ‘Digitalisation of Procedures in the EU for Judicial Cooperation in Civil, Commercial and Criminal Matters’. The conference is scheduled to take place on June 3-4, 2025, and aims to delve into the latest developments, practices, and challenges associated with the digitalization of justice within the framework of judicial cooperation at the European Union level.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the conference will feature participation from eminent judges, academics, legal professionals, and researchers from Italy, Cyprus, Belgium, Greece, the Netherlands, and Spain. This online event will utilize OUC’s distance learning tools, making it accessible through the link: https://tinyurl.com/6d9ynxr7. The conference is particularly aimed at judges, prosecutors, lawyers, legal advisors, academics, researchers, and experts involved in judicial cooperation.

The conference will provide insightful sessions for professionals engaged in the digitalization of justice, personal data protection, and the role of artificial intelligence in judicial cooperation. The program is divided into four thematic sessions. The first session, ‘Digitalisation of Justice – State of Play and Challenges’, will be chaired by Dr. Alexandros Tsadiras, an Associate Professor of EU Law at OUC and Jean Monnet Chairholder.

The second session, ‘Cross border data access and the right to privacy’, will be led by Dr. Nikos Gaitenidis, a postdoctoral researcher in the Jean Monnet research group. Dr. Roxani Frangou, an adjunct faculty member at OUC and member of the Jean Monnet research group, will chair the third session on ‘Online Dispute Resolution’. Finally, the fourth session, ‘The role of AI in judicial cooperation’, will be chaired by Dr. Despina Anagnostopoulou, a Professor of EU Politics and Institutions at the University of Macedonia and member of the Jean Monnet research group.
