No Evidence of Breach in Government Systems, Says Deputy Ministry

Nicosia: There is no indication of any breach of government systems and there is no demand for ransom, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy emphasized following reports on cyberattacks.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Ministry responded to a story in the daily "Politis," which alleged "interception of databases from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and requests for ransom from state agencies." The Deputy Ministry clarified that these reports are unsubstantiated, with no indication of a breach of government systems or any ransom demands.

The Deputy Ministry did acknowledge a rise in cyberattacks, noting increased attempts to breach websites and information systems in both the public and private sectors. This trend is not limited to Cyprus but is also observed across Europe.

In collaboration with the Digital Security Authority and relevant state services, the Deputy Ministry remains vigilant, continuously monitoring data and developments. It underscored the sensitivity of cyberattack-related issues, cautioning against the dissemination of unverified news.

Lastly, the Deputy Ministry urged media outlets to verify such information with them before publishing.
