Limassol: The mobile desalination unit installed at the port of Limassol has been put into full operation, according to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture, which notes that planning continues uninterrupted for a permanent solution for water scarcity.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the unit has a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day and was previously operated on a trial basis. During this period, all necessary technical and quality checks were carried out. Following their successful completion, the unit is now operating normally and contributing to the region's water supply.
The Ministry states that this unit is the third to be fully operational, following the Moni desalination unit, which has a capacity of approximately 15,000 cubic meters per day, and the Kissonerga desalination unit, with a capacity of 12,000 cubic meters per day. Both began operating in July 2025.
With the addition of these new units, the total number of desalination units has increased from five to eight. The inclusion of the unit in Garyllis, expected to become operational in the coming weeks, will raise the total to nine. The Garyllis unit, with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters per day, faced delays due to geopolitical developments in the region.
