Cyprus: The Cyprus Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reiterated its commitment to supporting the humanitarian missions of the World Health Organization (WHO) after the successful delivery of 106 tons of aid from Limassol, Cyprus, to Ashdod, for distribution in the Gaza Strip. According to Cyprus News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its honor in partnering with WHO to deliver emergency nutrition supplies for Gaza under the UN2720 initiative. The Ministry emphasized its ongoing dedication to humanitarian efforts and aiding those most in need. This statement followed a post by WHO Regional Director Hans Kluge, who confirmed the arrival of the cargo on Thursday morning. In his announcement, Kluge noted that approximately 106 metric tons of supplies were dispatched from Limassol to Ashdod Port and have now reached Gaza for distribution. He highlighted the importance of this shipment in enhancing WHO's ability to transport humanitarian supplies across regions to support communities affected by con flict. Kluge expressed gratitude to the Government of Cyprus and other partners for their effective coordination and shared commitment, and acknowledged WHO in the occupied Palestinian territory for its support in facilitating this endeavor. The aid was mobilized as part of the Amalthea humanitarian corridor. WHO/Europe announced on Wednesday that its Humanitarian Bridge Initiative in Cyprus had successfully facilitated the first shipment of emergency nutrition supplies to Gaza, carried out in close collaboration with WHO offices in Cyprus and the occupied Palestinian territories. This effort received significant backing from the Government of Cyprus, particularly the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense. WHO further stated that the shipment had safely arrived at Ashdod Port, Israel, and preparations are underway for its distribution in Gaza as part of WHO's emergency response operations. This delivery represents a significant step in strengthening WHO's interregional humanitarian logistics capacity in a conflict-affected region, particularly in Gaza. The initiative also highlights Cyprus's strategic role as a humanitarian logistics hub, utilizing its geographic proximity, approximately 370 kilometers from Gaza, and its position within the European Union single market to expedite the mobilization and dispatch of critical supplies.
