Luxembourg: Finance Minister Makis Keravnos will participate in the Eurogroup meeting on Thursday and chair the ECOFIN Council on Friday, in Luxembourg. On Thursday, 11 June, Keravnos will engage with fellow ministers in discussions surrounding macroeconomic and fiscal developments in the euro area. They will also receive a briefing on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assessment of euro area policies, as revealed by the Finance Ministry in a press release.
According to Cyprus News Agency, ministers will have an exchange of views with all EU member states regarding economic and energy security within the EU. This discussion will be informed by a presentation from IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
On the following day, Friday, 12 June, Keravnos will take on the role of chair at the ECOFIN Council. The focus will be on an amendment to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation, aiming for a general approach consensus. The regulation's objective is to impose a carbon levy on certain imports, ensuring fair competition between EU and non-EU goods. The proposed amendment is intended to enhance the framework's effectiveness and broaden the range of products covered.
Additionally, the ECOFIN Council is set to approve revised recovery and resilience plans for countries including Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Belgium, and Poland. Keravnos's agenda also includes attending the annual meetings of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) Boards of Governors.
