January Rainfall Reaches 47% of Seasonal Levels in Republic

Nicosia: Average precipitation in January so far has been recorded at 47% of the seasonal level in the government-controlled areas of the Republic, according to preliminary data released on Wednesday by the Department of Meteorology.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the data indicates that precipitation between January 1 and 14 was measured at 47.8 millimeters, compared to the average rainfall for the month, which stands at 102.4 millimeters. This shortfall highlights a significant deviation from typical January precipitation levels.

Since the start of the water year on October 1, total rainfall until January 14 has reached 207 millimeters. This figure corresponds to 70% of the average level for this period, which is normally 294 millimeters.

The highest amount of rainfall recorded in January to date was at the Pano Panagia station, with 121.6 millimeters, accounting for 79% of the seasonal average for that location. This was followed by Platania with 124.1 millimeters, marking 66% of its seasonal average. Other notable measurements include the Stavros tis Psokas area with 108.1 millimeters (65%), the Prodromos area with 96.6 millimeters (49%), and the Polis Chrysochous and Athalassa stations, recording 46.7 millimeters (48%) and 23 millimeters (48%) respectively.
