Nicosia: Sales in stores during the holiday season and the days leading up to New Year's Eve were satisfactory and outperformed previous years, stated Stefanos Koursaris, Secretary General of the Cyprus Confederation of Professional Craftsmen and Shopkeepers (CyCPOVEK). He noted that the market showed satisfactory performance, especially in essential goods.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Koursaris highlighted that the market reached satisfactory levels, particularly regarding basic necessities. The change in weather and the drop in temperature also boosted sales in other sectors, such as clothing and footwear.
Koursaris mentioned that some consumers might now be waiting for the sales period to make additional purchases. He observed that the festive atmosphere, combined with the Cypriot mentality and the tradition of Christmas and New Year's Eve dinners, fostered an environment conducive to shopping.
When questioned about high prices and their impact on the market, Koursaris stated that during such festive periods, "inflation takes a back seat" as families strive to meet their needs. While acknowledging that prices are high, he noted that there is a segment of the population that opted for conservative purchasing. Nonetheless, compared to other years, this year was marked as good and satisfactory.
