Hanoi: HCM City will focus on developing cultural and sports initiatives at the grassroots level in 2026. The move aims to promote local cultural values and connect communities to develop HCM City into a modern city with a humanitarian spirit, and an innovation and integration hub.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during a conference on the city's cultural and sports development in 2025, Tr?n Th? Di?u Thºy, Vice Chairwoman of the municipal People's Committee, emphasized that the Culture and Sports Department should concentrate on cultural tasks associated with two-tier local administration, which were identified in the resolutions of the city's authorities for the 2025 - 2030 period. Thºy highlighted the need for developing cultural and sports facilities at the grassroots level, particularly in remote areas, to ensure community participation in cultural and sports activities.
She urged the department to continue expanding the H? Ch Minh Cultural Space model and establish more community cultural and arts spaces to meet public demands. She also stressed the importance of strengthening international integration, organizing regional and global cultural and sports events, linking the cultural industry with tourism, and developing the night-time economy.
In 2025, the city organized numerous cultural and sports activities to commemorate significant national events, such as the 50th anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification. The department hosted an art and literary contest themed "Th nh Ph? H? Ch Minh - 50 Nam T? H o B?n Anh H¹ng Ca" (HCM City - 50 Years of Patriotic Pride), which resulted in 83 winning works across music, fine arts, photography, and architecture. These works underscored the historical values of the national liberation fight and the development of modern HCM City, promoting the essence of progressive Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
HCM City was officially designated a UNESCO Creative City of Film, an accolade that opens up cooperation opportunities and promotes the city's image internationally. The city boasts 321 national and provincial-level relics, including four special national relics, 99 national relics, and 218 provincial-level relics, underscoring its commitment to heritage preservation and reflecting its efforts in promoting education and tourism.
Nguy?n Van H¹ng, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, noted that following the merger with B¬nh Duong and B R?a - Vung T u Provinces, the city's cultural and sports sector not only reflects the expansion of its administrative boundaries but also positions it as a national-level creative cultural and sports hub. He expressed optimism that the city would continue its leading role in the cultural and sports scene in the forthcoming period.
