Nicosia: Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis highlighted the strong ties between Cyprus and Romania during the 'Threads of Friendship' Fashion Show in Nicosia on June 12, an event marking the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse and promoting women's entrepreneurship and cultural cooperation between the two countries, according to a press release issued by the Shipping Deputy Ministry.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the event, held at the Landmark Hotel in Nicosia, brought together representatives from the diplomatic, business, and cultural communities of Cyprus and Romania. It was organized by the Embassy of Romania in Cyprus and featured initiatives aimed at strengthening cultural dialogue and bilateral cooperation.
Hadjimanolis praised the organizers and participants for promoting cultural exchange and fostering closer relations between the two countries. She described the relationship between Cyprus and Romania as one built on friendship, mutual respect, and shared European values, noting that cooperation has expanded over the years across a range of sectors, including culture, business, education, tourism, and maritime affairs.
The Deputy Minister also referred to the significance of the Universal Day of the Romanian Blouse, describing the traditional garment as 'a powerful symbol of identity, heritage, and craftsmanship'. As she noted, 'traditional garments are much more than pieces of fabric. They tell stories. They preserve memories. They connect generations. And they remind us, that cultural heritage, remains a source of inspiration, in a rapidly changing world, and even most importantly, it shows no borders.'
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of women entrepreneurs. Hadjimanolis said that 'women entrepreneurs, are not only driving economic growth; they are also building bridges between communities, fostering dialogue, being role models, and inspiring opportunities for future generations.'
Referring to Cyprus' maritime identity, the Deputy Minister highlighted the role of the sea in shaping the island's history and development. She noted that 'across the Mediterranean and beyond, maritime routes have carried not only goods and commerce, but also ideas, traditions, and cultural influences'.
The Deputy Minister added that 'the spirit of maritime cooperation, mirrors the spirit of tonight's event: building bridges, fostering understanding, and strengthening relationships across borders'.
The event also marked the launch of the Romanian-Cypriot Friendship Scarf, titled 'Embroidered Dialogues', a contemporary artistic creation that combines Romanian and Cypriot textile traditions.
