Nicosia: The Green Agenda Cyprus Summit, recognized as the country's largest sustainability conference, is set to return to Nicosia on June 4, 2026. The summit this year will operate under the theme 'Transition as a responsibility (not a trend),' and will feature prominent figures from the fields of sustainable development and innovation.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the event will include speakers such as Kostas Bakoyiannis, former mayor of Athens and chair of the European Committee of the Regions' ENVE Commission on Environment, Climate Change and Energy; Professor Dimitris K. Melissas, a lawyer and managing partner at Dimitris Melissas and Partners; and Dr. Byron Ioannou, head of the Department of Architecture at Frederick University.
Bakoyiannis will address the concept of 'cities of the future' and its implications for Athens and Cyprus. During a discussion alongside Professor Melissas and Dr. Ioannou, he will delve into strategies for making cities more sustainable, greener, and better equipped to handle challenges like heat, traffic congestion, and increasing urban pressure.
The summit aims to transcend theoretical discussions, focusing instead on practical issues such as enhancing public spaces, improving mobility, and urban planning that genuinely elevates residents' daily living conditions. Additionally, the conference will explore lessons that Cypriot cities can apply as they strive to balance development with quality of life.
