Helsinki: Finland and Cyprus have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing maritime cooperation, as demonstrated by a recent forum in Helsinki that brought together business delegations from the two countries’ shipping sectors. The event was jointly opened by Cyprus’s Shipping Deputy Minister, Ms. Marina Hadjimanolis, and Finland’s Permanent Secretary of Transport and Communications, Ms. Minna Kivim¤ki, ahead of the Cypriot President’s working visit to Finland.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the forum provided a platform for both nations to explore potential areas of collaboration, including automated and digitalized maritime solutions, ship energy systems, cyber security, new maritime fuels, maritime education, and gender equality in the shipping industry. These discussions were further enriched by a bilateral meeting between Hadjimanolis and Kivim¤ki, where they reviewed progress since the European Shipping Summit and identified specific opportunities for further engagement.
Both officials expressed satisfaction with the shared values and objectives of Cyprus and Finland regarding sustainable and secure international shipping. They also highlighted the importance of a competitive European maritime cluster and the pivotal roles both countries play in ensuring the industry’s growth. The dialogue concluded with a roadmap for future cooperation, emphasizing the importance of promoting sustainable maritime practices and strengthening European shipping on the global stage.
