Exhibition Reveals Hidden Portrait Under Titian’s Ecce Homo

Nicosia: The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is hosting an exhibition in Nicosia, showcasing the ‘Unseen Gaze’ of an unknown work by Renaissance painter Titian, which was concealed for centuries beneath his renowned painting Ecce Homo. The exhibition, titled ‘Unseen Gaze – The Hidden Portrait under Titian’s Ecce Homo’, will remain accessible to the public until June 30.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the ‘Unseen Gaze’ of the hidden work by Titian was uncovered by researchers from the ‘Andreas Pittas’ Art Characterization Laboratories of the Cyprus Institute. This discovery was made possible through the use of pioneering imaging techniques and modern methods of material analysis. The process underscores the significant role that science plays in the study of art.
