Brussels: Amid heightened international turmoil following reports of Nicol¡s Maduro's removal from Venezuela with U.S. involvement, a development later confirmed by U.S. President Donald Trump, the European Union has issued an official statement through its High Representative, Kaja Kallas, stressing the need to respect international law and prioritize the safety of European citizens in the country. Kallas stated she has communicated with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the EU Ambassador in Caracas, emphasizing that "the European Union is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela."
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kallas reiterated that the EU has consistently maintained that Mr. Maduro lacks legitimacy and has advocated for a peaceful transition. She emphasized the necessity of adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, urging all parties to exercise "restraint."
Kallas concluded her statement by highlighting that the safety of EU citizens in Venezuela remains "our top priority."
