Nicosia: Enclaved voters will be able to exercise their right to vote at two polling stations in Nicosia and Acheritou, Presidential Commissioner Marios Hartsiotis told CNA on Monday.
According to Cyprus News Agency, regarding the district of Kyrenia, the enclaved from Kormakitis and Karpasha will vote at the Kykkos A' High School in Center T, while those from the villages of Karpasia, namely Agios Andronikos, Rizokarpaso, and Agia Triada, will vote in the Famagusta district, where they administratively belong to Center A at the Acheritou Primary School.
Furthermore, Hartsiotis noted that for the Maronite religious group, a special ballot box will be set up-essentially again for those residing in Kormakiti and Karpasia-at Center C of the Kykkos A High School for the election of the representative of that religious group.
He explained that the enclaved residents coming from Kormakiti and Karpasia will have two ballot boxes to vote at the same polling center at the Kykkos A High School, where at polling station T they will vote for the party and the MP for the Kyrenia district, and at polling station C they will vote for the representative of their choice for the Maronite religious group.
Hartsiotis added that buses will be available to transport enclaved voters, and that arrangements have already been made by the community councils of each community. Specifically, two routes will be available from the Kormakitis and Karpasha areas: one from morning until noon when the polls close, and a second route for those interested in coming after the polls reopen in the afternoon until they close, while a similar route will apply for those in Karpasia.
He also stated that any enclaved individuals who are already in the free areas from the previous day-staying with relatives, friends, etc.- and depending on their location, will have the right to contact the Office of the Presidential Commissioner, which will be open from morning until evening, so that authorized officials, in consultation with the Electoral Service, can issue an authorization allowing them to vote wherever they are on that day.
Hartsiotis further explained that someone who has been in Limassol since Saturday can call on Sunday to be assisted and be told at which polling station in Limassol they can vote.
When asked if there is an estimate of the number of enclaved voters expected to cast ballots, Hartsiotis said that there is currently no exact number of voters who will be interested in exercising their right to vote, adding that interest is also being expressed depending on the routes that will be available. He concluded by saying that with seven days until the election, there might be a clearer picture of the exact number by the end of the week.
