Cyprus University of Technology Engages in Global Higher Education Seminar in China

Changchun: The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has taken part in the “Seminar for University Teachers from Belt and Road Initiative Countries” at Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China, from April 28 to May 18, 2025. Representing CUT, researcher Eirini Christou joined 27 participants from 10 countries across four continents in a collaborative educational exchange.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the 21-day seminar was fully funded and organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, with support from the Embassy of China in Cyprus and the Confucius Institute of the CUT. The seminar aimed to foster cooperation and knowledge sharing among universities within the Belt and Road Initiative framework. Conducted in English, the program included lectures, thematic discussions, academic symposiums, and cultural experiences.

The seminar addressed various topics related to the evolution of global higher education, such as higher education reform, digital integration in university teaching, educational policy and management, educational psychology, and quantitative research methodology in education. Additionally, the seminar focused on improving university education in economically disadvantaged regions, professional development of university teachers, and enhancing research competencies in higher education.

The event facilitated international dialogue and peer learning among educators and researchers from diverse academic backgrounds. Participants were also able to explore China’s cultural heritage through visits to significant landmarks like the Great Wall of China, the Shanghai TV Tower, and universities in Beijing and Shanghai, enriching their cultural understanding and professional connections.

Eirini Christou described the seminar as an exceptional opportunity for academic growth and intercultural exchange, emphasizing its focus on cooperation, innovation, and inclusive education. She noted the well-organized nature of the seminar and the supportive seminar office team, which contributed to an enjoyable experience. Christou highlighted the potential for future collaborations with China, NENU University, and other participating countries, underscoring the seminar’s success in building bridges for long-term academic partnerships.
