Cyprus Sets Sights on Top of Medal Table at GSSE in Andorra

Andorra: Cyprus is gearing up to make a significant impact at the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) in Andorra, as the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) announced its largest-ever team of 183 athletes. The event, scheduled from May 26 to June 1, presents a golden opportunity for Cyprus to top the medal table, a feat not achieved in 14 years.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Cypriot delegation was officially unveiled during a press conference held at the COC headquarters. The team is set to compete in all 16 sports included in the Games, such as swimming, athletics, judo, gymnastics, cycling, and more. The COC President, George Chrysostomou, emphasized the organization’s dedication to principles of excellence, equality, and cooperation, which have shaped the team’s composition. Cyprus will be represented by 12 national federations, with a team comprising 96 men and 87 women.

The delegation features a mix of seasoned champions and promising newcomers, many of whom will debut on the international stage. Chrysostomou expressed optimism about this combination, stating it brings hope for the future of Cyprus sports.

The Opening Ceremony is slated for May 26 at Andorra’s National Stadium, with competitions running from May 27 to May 31. Nine countries are participating in this year’s GSSE, including Andorra, Cyprus, Luxembourg, Iceland, Montenegro, Monaco, Malta, San Marino, and Liechtenstein.

Efthymios Polydorou, Chief of Mission, pointed out that the Games will feature new or returning disciplines like karate, gymnastics, artistic swimming, and beach volleyball, with 155 medal events in total. All participating federations have vowed to uphold Cyprus’s values of integrity, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit throughout the competition.
