Cyprus Records 38 New Metastatic Breast Cancer Cases Annually, Health Minister Reveals

Nicosia: In Cyprus, approximately 38 new cases of metastatic breast cancer are recorded each year, which corresponds to 5% of all women with breast cancer, significantly affecting their quality of life, Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, stated at a conference on Metastatic Breast Cancer held in Nicosia.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Damianos emphasized that metastatic breast cancer represents more than just a medical diagnosis, describing it as a continuous struggle that demands support, understanding, and access to quality health services. He highlighted the state’s commitment to standing by patients, aiming not only for their survival but also for improving their quality of life.

Damianos also highlighted international data, noting that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women worldwide. He reiterated that the annual 38 new metastatic breast cancer cases in Cyprus significantly impact patients’ lives.

The government, Damianos continued, is dedicated to supporting initiatives that address the needs of metastatic breast cancer patients. This support includes promoting access to innovative treatments, psychological support, social integration, and eliminating stigma associated with the disease.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing oncology treatment and care services, ensuring that no patient feels isolated. The voices of patients, he stated, must be central to healthcare policy.

Damianos also acknowledged Dr. Maria Theodoulou, a celebrated Cypriot scientist honored at the event for her contributions to healthcare. He praised her dedication and exceptional work in combating the most common cancer affecting women.
