Cyprus President Visits Kiev for High-Level Talks with Zelenskyy

Kiev: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides arrived in Kiev at 8 am (local and Cyprus time) on Thursday for a working visit that includes a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. President Christodoulides was welcomed upon his arrival at the Kiev train station by Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Yevhen Perebyinis, and Ukraine’s Ambassador to Cyprus, Sergii Nizhynskyi.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the President’s visit takes place ahead of Cyprus’ EU Presidency in the first half of 2026, and for Nicosia, it ‘reflects the steadfast political will of the Republic of Cyprus to actively contribute to the promotion of European priorities and to express its unwavering support for Ukraine.’

The programme includes the laying of a wreath at the Wall of Heroes, a memorial on the outer wall of the Saint Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery, dedicated to Kiev’s patron Archangel Michael. The wall is covered with photographs of fallen soldiers.

At around 11:25 local time – and Cyprus time – the President is expected to arrive at the Mariinskyi Palace, where he will be welcomed by President Zelenskyy. The two leaders will have a meeting followed by expanded talks between the two delegations. Later on, the two leaders will make statements to the media and attend a working lunch.

President Christodoulides will also visit Ukraine’s Parliament (Verkhovna Rada), where he will meet with the Speaker of the House, Ruslan Stefanchuk. Later in the afternoon, he will visit a special rehabilitation centre for children who have been abducted and returned from captivity in the occupied territories, as well as Saint Sophia Cathedral.

During his stay in the Ukrainian capital, President Christodoulides will also meet with the U.S. Charg© d’Affaires in Ukraine, Julie Davis. He is accompanied by Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, the Director of his diplomatic office Doros Venezis and other officials.
