Nicosia: Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides is en route to Kiev for a working visit ahead of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in the first half of 2026. President Christodoulides arrived in Poland on Wednesday afternoon and boarded a train near the border with Ukraine for an approximately 10-hour journey to Kiev. He is expected to arrive in the Ukrainian capital on Thursday morning.
According to Cyprus News Agency, in Kiev, the President will hold a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The discussions will focus on EU-Ukraine relations, the progress of the country’s accession negotiations, and the contribution of the upcoming Cyprus Presidency. During the meeting, President Christodoulides will reaffirm the full commitment of the Republic of Cyprus to the fundamental principles of international law and Cyprus’ absolute respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. This position aligns with Cyprus’ historical experience and unwavering principles, which must be upheld universally and without exception.
During his visit to Kiev, President Christodoulides, who is accompanied by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, will lay a wreath at the ‘Wall of Heroes’ memorial. He will also meet with the Speaker of the Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk and visit the Center for the rehabilitation of children repatriated after abduction and captivity in the occupied territories, as well as the Saint Sophia Cathedral.
