London: The Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus, Ms. Marina Hadjimanolis, addressed esteemed guests at the Cyprus BBQ Reception held during the IMO Council 137 in London, emphasizing Cyprus's commitment to international shipping and cooperation within the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
According to Cyprus News Agency, Ms. Hadjimanolis highlighted Cyprus's longstanding maritime tradition and its position as a leading maritime nation with one of the largest fleets globally. She reiterated Cyprus's dedication to multilateral cooperation in addressing global shipping challenges such as safety, security, environmental protection, and decarbonization. She affirmed Cyprus's support for the IMO's objectives and its commitment to constructive collaboration.
Ms. Hadjimanolis also reflected on Cyprus's recent completion of its six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union. During this period, Cyprus focused on promoting stability and progress, emphasizing the importance of the human element in shipping. The highlight of Cyprus's presidency was the adoption of the Lefkosia Declaration, a pivotal initiative agreed upon by all 27 EU Member States. The declaration centers on enhancing seafarers' education and training, promoting upskilling, and ensuring equal opportunities, especially for women in the maritime sector.
The minister expressed pride in the achievements and acknowledged the hard work and professionalism of her associates at the Ministry. She extended gratitude to her team members, Christos, Riana, Nikolas, and Maria, for their dedication and successful collaboration during the presidency. Ms. Hadjimanolis also extended best wishes to Ireland for its upcoming presidency, assuring them of Cyprus's full support.
The event also served as an opportunity to honor Mr. Spyros Miltiades, Deputy High Commissioner of Cyprus in the UK and Alternate Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the IMO, for his collaboration and commitment during his tenure in the UK. Ms. Hadjimanolis expressed confidence in achieving future successes with Mr. Miltiades from his new post in Cyprus.
