Cyprus Achieves Blue Flag Recognition for 46 Beaches and Two Marinas

Nicosia: Cyprus has achieved a significant milestone with 46 beaches and two marinas being awarded the prestigious Blue Flag this year, as announced by the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA).

According to Cyprus News Agency, CYMEPA, serving as the National Operator of the international Blue Flag Program in Cyprus, confirmed in a press release that by July 17, 2026, these sites attained the Blue Flag status. This accolade is recognized as one of the most prominent international distinctions for environmental quality and sustainable coastal management.

The Blue Flag is acknowledged globally as a symbol of quality for organized beaches, marinas, and tourist boats. Analyzing the distribution of the 46 awarded beaches, 27 are situated in the government-controlled Famagusta District, while the Larnaca and Limassol Districts each have three, and the Paphos District boasts 13.

Additionally, the two marinas in the country that have been honored with the Blue Flag are Limassol Marina and Ayia Napa Marina. This recognition highlights their commitment to maintaining high standards in environmental management.

Furthermore, by July 14, 2026, 25 of the 46 awarded beaches will feature special facilities and infrastructure to ensure safe and dignified access for individuals with mobility challenges. Of these, 16 beaches are located in the Famagusta District, three in the Larnaca District, two in the Limassol District, and four in the Paphos District. Notably, eight of these beaches are equipped with the SEATRAC system, which facilitates autonomous access to the sea.
