Bormio: Yiannos Kouyoumdjian completed his effort in the Technical Downhill (Slalom) of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, held at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, ranking 34th in the overall standings.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Cyprus Olympic Committee announced in a press release that Kouyoumdjian took 34th place in the overall standings, with a total time of 2:19.46. Of the 96 athletes who started, 39 managed to complete both downhills, highlighting the high degree of difficulty of the event and the significance of successfully completing the race.
In his first run, Kouyoumdjian recorded a time of 1:10.88, setting the stage for a competitive overall presence. The race took place in challenging weather conditions, under snowfall, making it difficult for all athletes, with more than half of those who started failing to cross the finish line.
The press release further noted that in the second and decisive attempt, which occurred under better weather conditions, Kouyoumdjian demonstrated composure and competitive maturity. He managed the demands of the track effectively, shaping his final time and securing the 34th place in the final standings.
After finishing the second descent, Kouyoumdjian remarked on the difficulty of the race, especially the first run with heavy snowfall. He expressed satisfaction with his stable finish and praised the excellent organization of the event, adding that it was a great experience for him.
The 29-year-old skier's participation in the Milano-Cortina 2026 Games concludes positively, confirming his steady development and Cyprus's continued representation on the international ski scene in his second consecutive Olympic participation.
The Cyprus Olympic Committee's competitive presence in Alpine Skiing will continue with Andrea Loizidou's participation in the Technical Downhill (Slalom) on Wednesday, February 18, in Cortina, as stated in the press release.
