Cypriot Sailor Pavlos Kontides Clinches Bronze at Los Angeles Grand Slam

Los angeles: Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides added another medal to his impressive collection by securing bronze at the Los Angeles Grand Slam.

According to Cyprus News Agency, this is Kontides’ second medal of 2025, following a silver at the World Championship in Qingdao, China. It also marked his best performance in the newly established Sailing Grand Slam series.

Beyond winning the medal, an important aspect for Kontides was experiencing firsthand the conditions in Los Angeles, where he aims to compete for his sixth Olympic Games in 2028.

“I am very pleased and satisfied with the bronze medal. I sailed very well during these four days,” said Kontides. “It was the first test for the Olympics. I’m quite excited about it. The conditions were quite good,” he added.

Kontides has been preparing recently at the port of Los Angeles, in San Pedro, where the sailing competitions for categories with boats will take place in 2028. Meanwhile, the Grand Slam was held in Long Beach, which will be used for sailing categories in 2028.

He will remain in Los Angeles until July 23rd for further preparation in San Pedro. After that, he will return to Cyprus for some rest before the European Championships in Marstrand, Sweden, in August.
