London: Co-chairs of the bicommunal Technical Committees will be meeting in London this week for a general exchange of views. A competent source told CNA, that the co-chairs will meet from tomorrow, Wednesday, until Friday in London "for a general exchange of views and drawing lessons from the experience so far."
According to Cyprus News Agency, Personal Envoy of UN Secretary-General Maria Angela Holguin mentioned in an opinion editorial that she plans to continue promoting rapprochement between key groups from both communities in the coming months. This effort follows the successful engagement with the Technical Committee on Youth during a retreat in Amman last December and a recent meeting with Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot academics in Paphos.
Cyprus has experienced division since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Multiple UN-led peace talks have failed to achieve resolution, with the latest negotiations in Crans-Montana in July 2017 ending without progress. In 2025, the Secretary-General hosted informal meetings on Cyprus in Geneva and New York, as well as a tripartite meeting with Cyprus leaders at the UN General Assembly High Level Week.
UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy on Cyprus, Mara Angela Holgun, is working on engaging the parties. Former European Commissioner Johannes Hahn, appointed as Special Envoy for Cyprus by the Commission, is also expected to support the settlement process alongside Holgun.
